Tap to spin wheel
The Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone discussion wheel game is an interactive, student-centred classroom activity based on Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone. Designed to support active learning and rich discussion, this game uses three connected spin-the-wheel activities to guide students from character focus, to deeper analysis, to collaborative interpretation. Perfect for literature lessons, guided reading sessions or revision activities, the game encourages critical thinking, speaking and listening skills, and evidence-based responses. It aligns naturally with the 70/30 teaching rule, ensuring students do most of the thinking and talking while teachers facilitate and guide. This activity works well for upper primary, KS3 and lower KS4 classrooms and can be adapted for group work, whole-class discussion or independent tasks. Spin Wheel 1: Character Focus Students spin the first wheel to select a character from Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone. This character becomes the focus for the entire activity. Spin Wheel 2: Motivation and Choice Using the same character, students spin the second wheel and answer the prompt. They should refer to the text where possible and justify their ideas. Spin Wheel 3: Discussion and Interpretation Students spin the final wheel to extend their thinking. This stage encourages debate, comparison, evaluation and connection to wider ideas. Discuss and Share Students discuss responses in pairs or small groups, then share ideas with the class. Teachers can pause the game at any point to model responses or highlight strong examples. This structured sequence keeps discussion focused while allowing every student a voice.Game Description
