🍽 Fun fact: The Michelin guide (now famous for awarding Michelin stars to high-quality restaurants around the world) actually began as a free guide distributed by the Michelin tyre company in 1900. Its initial aim was to encourage more people to drive cars, and therefore to buy tyres, by providing useful information to motorists, such as maps, how to change a tire, and where to find food and lodging while travelling.
It wasn't until 1926 that the guide began awarding stars to restaurants, initially just one star. The current system of awarding a maximum of three stars was introduced in 1931. The Michelin guide's transformation from a simple travel guide to a benchmark in gastronomy demonstrates how businesses can evolve and influence culture in unexpected ways.
