Purpose: Gamify repetitive listening passes, train ear-decoding skills, and build confidence with fast native speech.
First Pass (Standard Listen):
Play a short audio clip (30–60 seconds) at standard speed (1.0x) for overall comprehension. Ask a quick baseline check question.
Spin the Wheel:
Spin the Speed Roulette wheel to select the playback speed for the second pass (e.g., 0.75x, 1.25x, or 1.5x).
Set the Target Task:
Assign a specific listening challenge tailored to the selected speed:
0.75x – 0.85x): Challenge students to catch "swallowed" prepositions, silent letters, or subtle intonation drops.1.25x – 1.5x): Challenge students to listen only for core content nouns/verbs or identify fast-connected speech patterns (e.g., "going to" $\rightarrow$ "gonna").Second Pass & Check:
Adjust your media player speed setting, play the clip again, and let students share what they decoded under the new speed condition!
